- Understanding how writers innovate on text structures.
- Organising main ideas and supporting details using key questions or graphic organisers.
- Using features such as text boxes, topic sentences, home pages and subpages to aid navigation and usability.
- Editing for meaning and structure
WC5: Build meaning within paragraphs by using:
- Sentences to sequence information and join ideas and supporting details.
- Pronouns to maintain cohesion within sentences and paragraphs.
WC5: Proofread and edit writing, using knowledge of editing techniques.
WC5: Communicate intended meaning using punctuation, including:
- Commas to join clauses.
- Accurate use of commas, question marks, capitalisation and exclamation marks within quotation marks.
Classroom Organisation
- This learning experience is to be completed individually as it will be used as a form of assessment.
Learning Experiences
- Students are to work individually on the planning of their essay piece.
- Students will start off by completing the planning first before they begin to starting the writing.
- Each process is to be completed step by step and to be broken up into stages so that students do not feel overwhelmed with the workload.
- Ask the students- What are three main points about this Indigenous person?
Assessment
- This piece of work will be used as the summative assessment for the whole unit.
Adjustments
- ESL students will use the iPad app to plan their essay. These students will be given extensive one-on-one support throughout this process.
- Visual learners will have the Five Paragraph Essay Structure on their desks so they can be reminded of each process.
