Learning Experience: KWL Charts (40 minutes) Leaning Objectives WC 5: Use visual features to enhance and clarify meaning and express and extend ideas and information, e.g. flow charts, cross sections. Classroom Organisation - This activity is individual work that is to be completed at each student’s desk with limited discussion needed. Learning Experiences - Teacher is to go through and explain the layout of the table and what is to be included in each section. - Know: What they currently know about Aboriginal Culture - Want to Know: Questions they wish to find out about Aboriginal Culture. - Learnt: This section is filled out at the conclusion of the unit where students record all the information they have gathered. - Students are to fill out a KWL Chart on the daily life of inhabitants- focusing on Aboriginal Peoples and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. - Students should consider: o How the environment has changed o Role that significant individuals or groups played on shaping the colony. o Explorers, farmers, entrepreneurs, artists, writes, humanitarians, religious and political leaders, and aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Assessment - This task will be used as a guideline to evaluate each students initial understanding on the topic prior to beginning the unit. It will be an indicator to which students require more one on one assistance and support.
Adjustments - Based on each student’s initial knowledge some students particularly the ESL learners may require more one on one support to gain a basic understanding on the topic.
